This web page shows the animations that are described in the paper: "Effective Portrayal of the Passage of Time in Cartographic Animations: A Web-based experiment"
To run the animations you need to have a Shockwave plug-in installed in your browser. If you "click" on the one of the links your browser will first perform a check to see if Shockwave is installed. If not, you can download the necessary plugin here, and try again (Administrator privileges might be required).
Evaluated animation types:
The four time periods are all shown by a circular time animation
The experiment itself can be studied here ( if you have a matching installation of shockwave):
Experiment_shockwave (At the moment this does not work on newest versions of Netscape or Firefox in combination with the newes shockwave. IE works fine.)
If you do not want or can't install Shockwave, or if the current installation don't work, it is possible to download the animation and run it from your computer without any browser. Download the animation (about 3.5 Mb) and start it by double-click on "Experiment_application". The computer has to be connected to the Internet.
